A school division in rural Alberta, a Canadian province, has sued parties in relation to a vending machine they say started a April 7, 2018 fire that did nearly $1 million in damage to Heinsburg Community School. The Vendo Company, which the school division alleges manufactured the machine, and the Coca-Cola Company, which the school division alleges owned, operated and maintained the machine, are among the several defendants named in the suit at Alberta's Court of Queen's Bench.

The school division was run out of a local community halls during the repairs, a 2018 St. Paul Journal article stated. It claims the Vendo Company manufactured the machine with a "faulty" refrigeration compressor system.
