ART brings robotic White Castle foodservice to select Murphy USA stores
Automated Retail Technologies will provide the technology behind a foodservice expansion at Murphy USA, a gasoline and convenience merchandise retailer. ART’s autonomous platform will be used to vend White Castle at select larger-format stores.
Murphy USA previously announced the White Castle foodservice launch. ART said its role in the rollout expands autonomous branded foodservice into the convenience retail channel. The Sarasota, Fla.-based company developed the Just Baked autonomous foodservice platform, a robotic restaurant that can prepare and serve hot food in about two minutes.
“Our customers expect convenient, high quality food options as part of their daily routines, and we’re proud to partner with ART to bring a new level of choice and convenience to our stores,” said Scott Woodward, senior vice president and chief merchandising officer for Murphy USA.
The modular Automated Retail Technologies platform already supports national and regional food brands across multiple food categories. ART founder David Chessler said the Murphy USA deployment validates the company’s model of combining recognized food brands with automated preparation technology.
For convenience retailers, autonomous foodservice offers another approach to expanding prepared-food assortments in locations where a traditional restaurant or staffed foodservice operation may be impractical.
The rollout also reflects continued interest among convenience retailers in foodservice formats designed to deliver hot meals with consistent preparation while limiting the space and infrastructure required by conventional restaurant concepts, the company noted.
