The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) finds the world’s Arabica and Robusta coffee production is converging, according to its recently released report Coffee: World Markets and Trade. The USDA reports that the 2014/2015 global production of coffee is forecasted at 149.8 million bags, down from the previous year as lower output from Brazil, Peru, Indonesia, and Vietnam more than offsets gains in Central America and Colombia. World Arabica production is also expected to decline again while Robusta will rise, narrowing Arabica’s dominance from 62 percent 4 years earlier to an estimated 55 percent, according to the report. Because global consumption is expected to rise, inventories will fall, while world bean exports will remain unchanged. Full report.
