MEI Software Upgrades For Canadian $1 And $2 Coins

Oct. 12, 2011

MEI has developed software upgrades for the new Canadian $1 and $2 coins entering circulation in early 2012. Most MEI changers and managers were designed with embedded technology to allow quick and easy software updates to accommodate new coin designs.

The following products can be quickly updated with minimal effort and downtime:

MEI CASHFLOW® 7512/9500 coin acceptors – Can be upgraded in the field using the CASHFLOW Programming Module. This low-cost module can be purchased at local MEI distributors. The CF 7512 can also be upgraded at any authorized service center for a nominal fee.

CASHFLOW 540/541/560 coin acceptors – Must be upgraded at an MEI authorized service center for a nominal fee.
Note: This will be the last software upgrade available for this product.

CASHFLOW 330/111/130 coin acceptors – Must be upgraded at a local MEI authorized service center for a nominal fee.

New Software Upgrades are also available for the Conlux® CCM-5 Coin Changers.

According to the Canadian Royal Mint, the new coins will be produced from alloys that have similar, but not identical, composition to the current 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢ coins in circulation. Due to the slight change in alloy, all coin-accepting devices in Canada will require software modifications to enable $1 and $2 coin acceptance.
