Apple Pay is now available in Canada, albeit limitedly. The Star.com reports that beginning on Nov. 17, American Express users in Canada will be able to enter their card details into Apple Pay for their iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch and make contactless payments with the mobile wallet.
However, American Express cards are used in just 2 percent of Canadian payment transactions, the source reports and the mobile wallet is available only on the newest iPhone models, limiting its usage further.
PYMNTS reports that banks aren’t “necessarily on board with Apple Pay” due to fees associated with transactions, which is part of the reason for its slow entrance in Canada and globally.
Apple Pay launched in the U.S. last year.
