June 25, 2021

Vietnam’s leaders in Hanoi are planning to issue every citizen a digital identity with a QR code by 2025 to promote the development of a digitally run government.

According to a report in The Star, the e-government concept will enable the Southeast Asia country’s residents, enterprises and other organizations to better participate in government operations.

Vietnam’s e-government program entails online meetings, paperless document processing, contactless administrative procedures and cashless payments.

Vietnam's population has been recorded at over 96.2 million in 2019, making it the 15th most populous country in the world and third most populous in Southeast Asia.
