US Foods opened an expanded distribution center in Albuquerque, N.M. The new 135,000-square-foot facility enables the company to better serve customers throughout New Mexico, west Texas and southern Colorado. The expansion more than doubled the company's cold storage capacity and increased the number of shipping and receiving docks. The new facility also includes a number of sustainable design features, such as energy-efficient lighting, high-efficiency refrigeration systems and water conservation capabilities. "The new facility expands our presence in the West," said John Szurek, Albuquerque division president, US Foods. "Our increased capacity and environmentally friendly design will allow us to provide 40 percent more products and even better service to our customers in New Mexico and surrounding states." The facility has more than 150 employees and is expected to add jobs over the next few years as the company attracts new customers. The division marked the event by hosting a celebration for local dignitaries -- including State Senator Eric Griego and Bernalillo County Commissioner Art De La Cruz -- customers, employees and suppliers.
