Mondelēz International released its 2025 sustainability progress report, “Snacking Made Right,” outlining advances in cocoa sourcing, climate targets and packaging initiatives.

A central update was cocoa. Mondelēz said its Cocoa Life program now covers about 100% of the cocoa volume it sources for its chocolate business. The company also reported it works with more than 257,000 registered Cocoa Life farmers, and said the program continues to emphasize forest protection and restoration tied to more sustainable cocoa sourcing.

Mondelēz said it is also a founding member of the TogetherCocoa Foundation, which it described as a collaboration with governments and other companies to accelerate broader change in the cocoa sector.

Looking ahead, the company said it is pursuing an enterprise-wide cocoa sourcing approach that includes geographic diversification, large-scale farming and partnerships with food technology start-ups, including work on ingredients such as lab-grown cocoa. Mondelēz also cited investments in improved crop-forecasting processes and updates to smallholder programs to align with evolving regulations and consumer expectations.

On climate, Mondelēz tied its initiatives to a 2030 goal to reduce end-to-end carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions by 35% versus a 2018 baseline, and reported it has made about 60% progress toward that target. The company also said it exceeded its goal to reduce absolute water usage by 10% at priority sites by 2025, reporting an approximately 18% reduction versus 2018.

Mondelēz also highlighted packaging moves aimed at increasing recycled plastic content, including introducing recycled-content packaging for Cadbury in Australia. The company reported about 75% progress toward its 2030 recycled plastic content target.

Christine Montenegro McGrath, senior vice president and chief impact and sustainability officer, said the company remains focused on “focus, innovation and impact at scale” as it pursues more sustainable snacking.
