For convenience services operators, a KitKat heist in Poland is a reminder that product diversion risk doesn’t end at the warehouse. Traceability, trusted distribution partners and tight inventory controls matter as product moves through the supply chain.

A shipment of KitKat bars has been stolen in transit across Europe, with Nestlé confirming that approximately 12 tons of product — about 413,793 bars — disappeared while being transported from Italy to Poland.

“The vehicle and its load are still nowhere to be found,” Nestlé said in a statement reported by Associated Press.

The company warned that the stolen chocolate could surface through “unofficial sales channels,” but noted that the product is traceable through batch codes printed on packaging.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns around cargo theft across European supply chains, particularly for high volume, branded consumer goods moving between production and distribution points.
