Oreo zero sugar cookies expand mindful snacking choices
Oreo zero-sugar cookies are heading to U.S. shelves in January 2026, adding a nationally recognized no-sugar option to the cookie aisle at a time when consumers are paying closer attention to added sugars in snacks, according to the Associated Press. No word yet from Mondelez International on whether the zero-sugar options will be packed and sold to the away-from-home channel.
Oreo Zero Sugar and Oreo Double Stuf Zero Sugar will launch as permanent additions to the retail Oreo lineup, not limited-time offerings, according to the AP. It is reportedly the first time Mondelez International has sold a sugar-free Oreo variety in the United States, after earlier rollouts in Europe and China.
The company said the new cookies are a response to shoppers looking for ways to indulge while managing sugar intake. That direction mirrors broader snacking trends. Market research firm Circana reports that most Americans now seek snacks they consider healthier, while a recent Conagra Brands report finds that Millennials and Generation Z consumers are gravitating toward portion-controlled and wellness-focused products.
Mondelez spent four years developing the zero-sugar recipe to ensure the new cookies tasted like the classic Oreo, according to the AP.
