Ellsworth expands cheese curd flavors as demand for protein snacks grows
Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery is positioning its natural cheddar cheese curds as a high protein, better-for-you snack option as more consumers look to increase protein intake.
According to a Circana report, about 23% of United States households — or an estimated 30 million households — are using GLP-1 medications to lose weight or manage diabetes. These shoppers are seeking more protein and fewer high sugar or high carbohydrate foods, driving demand for convenient, high protein snacks.
Ellsworth Natural Cheese Curds is leaning in to meet that demand, updating its packaging to highlight that each 1-oz serving provides 6 g of protein. A 5-oz pouch delivers 30 g of protein, which the company says meets U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines for a good source. The curds are marketed as a ready-to-eat dairy snack that can fit into healthier eating plans.
The cheese curds are available in eight flavors: Natural White Cheddar, Garlic Cheddar, Ranch Cheddar, Cajun Cheddar, Hickory Bacon Cheddar, Hot Buffalo Cheddar, Dill Pickle Cheddar and Taco Cheddar. Ellsworth plans to add three more varieties later this year: Pizza Cheddar, Jalapeño Cheddar and Sour Cream and Onion Cheddar.
Vending and micro market operators can buy Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery products wholesale by contacting the company’s sales team directly through its food service website.
