US Foods To Acquire Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution, Inc., Iowa City, Ia.

US Foods has agreed to acquire Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution, Inc. of Iowa City, Ia.

Founded in 1952, Hawkeye is one of the largest independently owned broadline foodservice distributors with sales in excess of $200 million. Hawkeye serves more than 4,000 customers, including independent restaurants, health care facilities and schools. The Hawkeye distribution center in Iowa City, Ia., will serve as US Foods' first distribution center in the state.

"Hawkeye is an outstanding company with a deep commitment to food and customer service," said Keith Knight, central region president, US Foods in a prepared statement. "Adding the Hawkeye business to US Foods will enable us to better serve our customers throughout Iowa and expand our presence in this region."

Jeff Braverman, president of Hawkeye and the third generation to lead the company, will join US Foods as the division president in Iowa. "US Foods is committed to providing customers with top notch service and innovative product offerings that will create new opportunities for Hawkeye customers," said Jeff Braverman. "I'm excited that Hawkeye is now part of this industry leading company."

The transaction is expected to close in early August. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
