A Kroger grocery store in Kentucky has opened a Kroger Express mini market inside a Walgreens, according to Grocery Dive. It will offer more than 2,000 products including fresh produce, meat and private label items. The store in store concept is one of many planned and the source suggests Kroger could go so far as to put Kroger Expresses inside office buildings and hospitals.
Editor's Insight: The addition of self-checkout would make the Kroger Express essentially a micro market. Having it inside a drug store increases the competition for operators, and if Kroger does go into business and industry accounts it will be a direct competitor.
