Laird Superfood Inc. has acquired Terrasoul Superfoods LLC for $48 million in cash, with the final cost determined by the achievement of performance-based milestones.

Terrasoul’s product lineup includes nuts, seeds, dried fruits, powders, baking ingredients and functional beverage mix-ins. It complements Laird’s plant-based functional foods such as coffee creamers, hydration and beverage mixes, supplements and snacks.

Laird Superfood worked with Nexus Capital Management to fund the acquisition. Following the acquisition, Nexus will own approximately 71.7% of Laird Superfood’s issued and outstanding shares on a fully diluted, as-converted basis, the company said.

Jason Vieth, CEO of Laird Superfood, said the deal supports the company’s strategy in superfoods and functional nutrition and expands its ability to serve consumers across channels. Kayla Dean Obia, a principal at Nexus Capital, said the acquisition aligns with Nexus’ focus on building value in functional nutrition.

Why this matters for refreshment services providers

  • Consolidation is accelerating in functional nutrition as brands seek more scale in sourcing, manufacturing and distribution. These changes could affect the availability and pricing for convenience services operators.
  • Functional beverage mix-ins remain a growth area that overlaps with refreshment formats, including ready-to-mix and portionable products.
  • Vertically integrated models can improve margin control and in-stock performance for ingredient-driven categories like nuts, seeds and powders.
  • Operators watching “clean-label” and nutrient-dense demand may see more branded options that fit better-for-you merchandising strategies.
