Compass Group UK & Ireland brought together more than 120 employees from across its food and support services businesses on Sept. 18 for “Inclusioneers @ Compass,” an event during National Inclusion Week (Sept. 15-21). The gathering emphasized inclusion, belonging and how the company’s internal networks help build a workplace where all employees feel valued. Compass UK&I offers a mix of services, including vending and micro markets, catering and foodservice.

Top executives, including Compass UK & Ireland leaders and executive sponsors of employee networks, shared personal experiences during panel discussions, testifying to the importance of fostering an inclusive culture. René Carayol MBE, an executive coach, addressed leadership’s role during the keynote session about driving inclusion and motivating staff toward shared goals.

Compass has six employee networks — among them “You Matter,” “Pride in Food” and “Ability” — that support staff from diverse backgrounds. For example, members of the Ability network were joined by Paralympian Aaron Phipps MBE to illustrate how inclusion works in practice.

Compass says that inclusion is a pillar of its “Our Social Promise,” which includes a commitment called Mission to a Million. Throughout the week, the company held webinars, listening sessions and launched network podcasts. Staff also shared their own commitments to maintaining and enhancing an inclusive environment.
