Barry Callebaut breaks ground on new specialty chocolate factory in Ontario

Oct. 7, 2022
Expected to open 2024, the new factory will be focused on sugar-free, high protein, and other specialty chocolate products.

Barry Callebaut Group, a manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, celebrated the groundbreaking of its newest factory in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

In attendance were Barry Callebaut executives Chris DiMambro; Balaji Padmanabhan; Angie Kipper; Jin Kim, Americas’ CFO; Steve Woolley, Americas’ President and CEO; Brantford-Brant Member of Provincial Parliament William Bouma; and Brantford City Councillor John Sless.

Expected to create over 200 new jobs in Brantford, Ontario, the specialty chocolate plant will open in 2024.

In April, Barry Callebaut announced their plans to invest USD 104 million (CHF 100 million) into the new site. The new factory in Ontario marks the group’s biggest capital investment in the region and will be in addition to the 15 chocolate and cocoa processing factories Barry Callebaut currently has across the Americas' region. Two of these 15 factories are located in Canada: one in Chatham, Ontario, and one in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, its largest facility in the Americas.
