Four more Spinx locations will join the pilot program this fall. And by the third quarter of 2022, the fuel and retail company plans to have self-checkout stations at all its locations.
Spinx president Stan Storti told UBJ that self-checkout technology is intended to offer customers a speedy checkout option and redirect employees to other tasks to improve service, including the Spinx Clean maintenance program. He emphasized that self-checkout is not about reducing the company’s workforce.
The c-store chain was founded by Stewart Spinx in 1972 when it opened its first store in Greenville. Today, it operates more than 80 stores throughout South Carolina and employs more 1,400 people.
