The beginning of July started off with an increase in gas prices from $2.85 to $2.89, and the end of this month shows a national average down to $2.84, according to AAA. Last week Hawaii was the only state to see a gas price increase of one-cent and Montana stayed steady at $2.93. The rest of the states' gas prices dropped as much as 13 cents. Average national gas prices are two cents cheaper than last month, but 57-cents more expensive than a year ago.
