Dot Foods Employees Donate Nearly $240,000 To Hurricane Relief Efforts

Jan. 18, 2018

MT. STERLING, ILL., JANUARY 17, 2018Dot Foods, the nation’s largest food industry redistributor is proud to announce its employees responded in extraordinary fashion to assist victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Dot Foods and its employees from all 12 locations nationwide came together to donate $239,872 to the Red Cross and Houston Food Bank.

“It makes me so proud to work for Dot Foods. There aren’t many companies who will match your donation dollar for dollar and offer giving through payroll deductions. Our leadership makes it easy for employees to help others. These values are at the core of our company every day.” said Kimberly Hultquist, Dot Foods accounts receivable specialist.

When Kimberly learned that an employee of a Dot Foods customer had lost everything in Hurricane Harvey, she and her dad, Les Hultquist, a Dot Foods retiree, purchased a used vehicle for the family and personally delivered it to them in Houston, Texas. Kimberly and Les remained in the area for a week to help with the relief efforts.

“This incredibly generous gift from Dot Foods will help the Red Cross continue to assist those whose lives were turned upside down by the hurricanes,” said Lyn Hruska, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region. “Those affected by the hurricanes will need assistance in the days, weeks and months ahead and donations like this gift from Dot Foods enable the Red Cross to support residents with their recovery needs.”

Dot Foods employees made the donations in late 2017, while simultaneously supporting two other, annual company charitable campaigns.

“I was really moved by the generosity of our team—but not surprised,” said Dot Foods Executive Chairman John Tracy. “We have incredible people at Dot. They care deeply about their communities and are always among the first to step up and say, ‘How can we help?’ We’re proud to contribute to the great work the Red Cross and Houston Food Bank have done and will continue doing to assist hurricane victims.”

More than 500 Red Cross volunteers continue to assist with long-term recovery efforts in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Volunteers are helping residents with recovery plans, financial assistance, accessing additional resources for housing and other necessities.
