DPS Named to The Civic 50, honored as Consumer Staples Sector Leader in Recognition of Company's Positive Impact on Communities

PLANO, Texas, June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr Pepper Snapple Group (NYSE: DPS) has once again been named to The Civic 50, a select group of companies recognized by Points of Light for community service. DPS is among 50 of the nation's top companies being honored for best using their time, talent and resources to improve the quality of life where they do business. The company also took the top spot in the consumer staples sector.

The honor reflects DPS's efforts to foster physically active, engaged and sustainable communities.

"We know that when we make a difference in a community, it benefits our employees, customers and consumers who live and work there. That's the right thing to do, and it's good business," said Vicki Draughn, vice president of corporate affairs for DPS. "It is an honor for our actions to be recognized by Points of Light for the fifth year in a row."

Selected companies of The Civic 50 were evaluated on factors such as investment, integration, institutionalization and impact of community engagement. DPS's key philanthropic pillars and partnerships include:

  • Fit & Active Lifestyles: DPS's Let's Play initiative, launched in 2011, is helping kids and families engage in active lifestyles by providing the tools, places and inspiration to make play a daily priority. Through Let's Play, the company has partnered with KaBOOM! and Good Sports to build or improve playgrounds and provide sports equipment to youth-serving organizations in need. DPS's $38 million commitment to Let's Play will benefit more than 13 million kids across the U.S., Canada and Mexico by the end of 2019.
  • Environmental Initiatives: DPS has three environmental partnerships to address the challenges of recycling and water conservation. In support of an industry container recycling goal of 60 percent by 2030, DPS has partnered with Keep America Beautiful to fund the placement of 6,500 recycling bins in parks and other public spaces by 2019 through a nearly$2 million commitment and last year signed onto the Closed Loop Fund, investing $5 millionover 10 years to support the expansion of recycling infrastructure. And since 2012, the company has partnered with The Nature Conservancy to protect and restore several watersheds serving Texas' three-largest metropolitan areas.
  • Hometown Giving: Since 2008, DPS has raised nearly $17 million for United Way agencies, including almost $3.2 million last year alone, through a combination of employee giving and corporate match. In addition, last year the company expanded its Hometown Giving plank with a three-year, $1 million partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support efforts to engage graduating high schools through its Alumni & Friends Network.

"In the fifth year of honoring the most community-minded companies in the nation, The Civic 50 truly highlights the commitment to community and civic engagement of America's leading brands," said Jennifer Lawson, president of networks at Points of Light. "By elevating critical stakeholder voices from employees, customers and communities into their mission statements, The Civic 50 companies are putting themselves at the center of change to create more enduring and sustainable business models."

Results of The Civic 50 were announced at the Points of Light Conference on Volunteering and Service in Seattle. The Civic 50 survey was administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform The Civic 50 scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
