Bill Proposed: Uniform Expiration Date Labeling On Food To Reduce Waste

May 23, 2016

Legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate and House recently to make expiration date labeling more consistent across the nation, according to CNBC. Currently no national dated food label standard exists (except for infant formula), and the dates used on food can mean, sell by, expires on, use by, etc. Throwing away edible food due to confusing labeling has gone up 50 percent since 1970, clogging municipal waste systems and landfill space, according to the source.
