Starting in January, the city of Riverside, CA, is planning to expand its requirements that healthier products are among options in vending machines on city property, according to The Press Enterprise. About a year ago, the city ran a pilot program requiring products meet certain nutritional requirements. Now the city plans to extend the program to include all 34 vending machines in public facilities, including those for city workers. At some locations, sales of these snacks increased once educational programs were put in place about healthier eating.
