(CHICAGO) November 4, 2014 – NAMA announced today that vending operators are part of the pool of businesses that must complete the food facilities registration deadline required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Eric Dell, NAMA SVP of Government Affairs.

The message reminds food facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food(s) for consumption in the U.S. that they must register or renew their registration with the FDA at www.access.fda.gov by December 31.

The purpose of the food facilities registration is to provide the FDA with an additional tool to track contamination that may occur to food in the supply chain. The food facility registration requirement is part of The Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002.

“Knowing that our industry needed clarity on this issue, NAMA confirmed with the FDA that this registration applies to vending operators, even if their business does not contain a commissary or produce food on premises,” Dell said. “We thank our members for their assistance in ensuring that food safety remains of great importance to our industry.”

Vending operators are encouraged to register their business before the end-of-year deadline. Click here for more information and instructions for registration.
