NAMA Deems Its Inaugural 2014 Capitol Hill Advocacy Day A Success

Feb. 11, 2014

NAMA announced that its Government Affairs Division hosted the first of nine planned Capitol Hill Advocacy Days for 2014.

Led by Eric Dell, NAMA’s senior vice president of government affairs, the delegation included Randy Smith, NAMA board member and president and CEO, LightSpeed Automation and Mickal McMath, president, Moore Haus Coffee and member of NAMA’s Emerging Leaders Network (ELN), as well as NAMA staff.

The meetings, with members of Congress and staff who serve on the House Financial Services Committee, focused on policy discussions regarding the U.S. Mint’s ongoing research on proposed new metallic coin content for the nickel; the FDA’s pending calorie disclosure regulations and general issues related to healthy choices and vending. The delegation also worked to educate lawmakers about the economic impact of the vending and refreshment services industry to the national economy.

“The first 2014 Capitol Hill Advocacy Day was a huge success,” said Dell in a prepared statement. “NAMA’s delegation met with seven congressional offices with five of those meetings involving members of Congress. We look forward to increased participation and deeper policy discussions in the remaining eight Washington, D.C. Advocacy Days throughout the year.”

“Participating in NAMA’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill is critical to the industry and I was happy to be able to do my part. It is important that industry leaders take time to go to Washington and be involved in the process,” said Smith.

“I enjoyed speaking with my congressman and communicating the value of our industry and the jobs we provide in his district. It was also encouraging to witness first-hand the positive reception from both democrats and republicans on why it is important to not stifle us with overly burdensome regulations,” McMath concluded.
