Connecticut School Officials Approve Healthy Food Certification Program Despite Declining Revenues From Vending Machines

Region 13 school officials in Durham and Middlefield, Conn. agreed to continue the Connecticut's Healthy Food Certification program which limits the district in what foods can be sold in cafeterias, vending machine and fundraising activities, according to Killingworth-Durham-Middlefield Patch.

By participating, the district is reimbursed an additional $0.10 per lunch served, $12,000 in a year. In contrast, the school is seeing vending machine revenues fall from $15,000 to $5,000. Board members had mixed feeling about the program. For the full story click here.
