CHICAGO – February 13, 2020 – Today, NAMA’s Manager of Government Affairs, Wes Fisher, testified before the Washington, D.C. City Council on how banning cashless retail transactions negatively impacts operators of micro markets in the District.
“We have seen cashless retail ban bills introduced across the nation over the past year, and recently in the U.S. House of Representatives.” said Mike Goscinski, NAMA’s Director of Federal and State Affairs.
“It is imperative that NAMA communicate to legislators how the convenience services industry could be uniquely impacted.”
The Cashless Retailers Prohibition Act of 2019 attempts to ban card or biometric-only payment in all retail establishments, including micro markets and vending machines. NAMA’s been in the forefront of the issue, engaging with lawmakers in Oregon, California, Michigan, Philadelphia, and the District of Columbia.
