Route Driver of the Year: Scott Ralston, Snack Time Vending, Inc.

Oct. 1, 2009
Passion for the job has kept this driver exceeding his employer’s expectations for 20 years.

THE THIRD QUARTER WINNER of Automatic Merchandiser’s 6th annual Route Driver of the Year Award goes to Scott Ralston, of Longwood, Fla.-based Snack Time Vending Inc. Ralston was nominated by company president Jerry Jacobs because he always strives and succeeds in doing a superior job. “We constantly receive praise from his locations citing his friendliness and willingness to accommodate any and all requests,” said Jacobs.

Ralston won based on a numerical score in various areas, including number of machines serviced, years of service, appearance, friendliness, and truck/machine condition. The contest is sponsored by Kraft Vending & OCS.

According to Jacobs, Ralston’s dedication has helped the company celebrate its 25-year anniversary. “As in any company, there is a direct correlation between a company’s success and the dedicated and skilled employees who are an integral part of that company,” said Jacobs.

A recent example of Ralston’s dedication is reducing the diesel fuel costs for the company by alerting them to a new fuel provider.

Many customers on Ralston’s route have been with him for 20 years. He considers them one of the best parts of his job. “It’s a pleasure to be able to bring them all the items they enjoy, including fresh sandwiches from our commissary,” said Ralston, who has the least spoilage among the company’s drivers.

Keeping his truck clean and properly merchandised is one of Ralston’s strategies for success. He attributes his organizational skills to his six years in the Navy. “I didn’t realize at the time, but that training was invaluable,” said Ralston.

It’s clear that enthusiasm sets Ralston apart. “My dad always told me, if you are going to do something, do it right...it is important to me to do the ‘right’ job”.
