Uber, Cargo Team Up To Offer In-Car Vending Machines

July 20, 2018

Uber recently announced a partnership with Cargo to offer Uber riders access to snacks and other products from Cargo’s center-console box filled with goods. Starting in San Francisco and Los Angeles, drivers are able to pick up their Cargo box and get hands-on support at the Greenlight Hubs, where they already come for on-boarding and in-person help, according to the Uber website. Cargo is also available for Uber drivers in New York City, Boston, Minneapolis, Washington D.C., Atlanta and Dallas. Expansion will continue.

Partnerships with major brands, such as Kellogg’s, Starbucks and Mars Wrigley Confectionary, let drivers offer free samples and items for purchase via a mobile device, states the article. Plus, drivers earn a portion of each sale. One million items have already been distributed with Cargo.

Editor’s Note: Operators familiar with honor boxes will recognize Cargo as a similar concept, but inside a car and paid via mobile. A partnership with a large company such as Uber puts Cargo in a position to expand its reach dramatically and be a competitive threat to vending operators, especially with commissions being paid to drivers for carrying the mini vending machines and selling products to riders.
