NAMA's Sheree Edwards Presents Legislative Update At SCVA Conference

Jan. 24, 2013

Sheree Edwards, southern regional legislative director for the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA), recently presented a comprehensive legislative update at the South Carolina Vending Association (SCVA) Winter Training Conference in Charleston, S.C.

“Our goal was to provide NAMA members with a look at industry-related priorities in the wake of the presidential election, particularly those issues, including 'nutrition' and 'healthy' programs that could have a significant impact,” said Edwards, in a prepared statement.

“As always, our No. 1 mission is to serve our members. This presentation is part of our overall government affairs/advocacy effort, led by Senior Vice President Eric Dell, designed to protect NAMA operators from potentially harmful legislation and taxation, which is an ongoing and tough process. On a personal note, I want to arm them with information members need to protect their business and foster growth,” she continued.

During the session, Edwards delivered an executive-level overview on related initiatives and policies at both municipal and state levels, particularly limitations and proposed taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages as well as restrictions on the sale of traditional vended snacks.

Edwards also discussed NAMA’s strategic plan and advocacy programs designed to hit these issues head-on throughout 2013 and beyond.

The conference hosted more than 130 attendees, including operators and suppliers from across South Carolina. Other events included educational and business sessions on emerging vending technologies presented by technology expert Paresh Patel, and marketing concepts for consumer base expansion by renowned author and business coach, Alan Adler.
