A research study on the benefits of integrated worksite wellness was presented at the ACSM annual meeting in San Francisco, Calif. by Gary Sforzo, Ph.D., Ithaca College. The Balance+ study, conducted with Mayo Clinic's division of Population Health Solutions and Ithaca College, looked at the impact of integrated wellness programs offered by Plus One Health Management and Compass Group as part of their strategic partnership.

Participants who received the combination of discounted healthful meals from Compass Group, fitness center access through Plus One and health education showed:

  • increased knowledge;
  • improved life satisfaction;
  • increased energy and
  • steady employee morale while other employees showed a significant decline in morale.

Complete findings are available in the April 2012 issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a summary can be viewed on balanceittakesyou.com. Future research will focus on longer term programs and their impact on broader health outcomes.

"Plus One Health Management is committed to proven results. This study reaffirms that integrated worksite wellness programs that include physical activity, education, and healthy eating, yield the greatest results," says deNelle O'Connor, Vice President, Health Promotion Development at Plus One Health Management. "The Balance+ solution supports our clients' goals to create a healthier workforce, alleviate the burden of healthcare spend, and increase employee productivity and morale."

Balance+ combines Plus One Health Management's physical activity and wellness programs with Compass Group's Balance solution that encourages healthy lifestyle choices to offer a unique, highly integrated worksite wellness solution.
