Washington State Pushes For 50% Healthy In Vending Machines

Feb. 27, 2017

Washington state's Montgomery County Council members want to replace at least half of the traditional vending machine snacks found on county sites, reports WTOP-FM. Councilman George Leventhal is the lead sponsor of the bill that would require at least half the items in vending machines on county property to meet nutrition standards for sugar, salt, fat and other measures recommended by the American Heart Association. This will be a challenge since the America heart Association mentions that it does not certify candy, desserts, doughnuts, cereal bars and snacks, reports the source.
