Güdpod to bring Keurig, Nespresso compostable pods to North America

June 21, 2021

Newburgh, NY-based Güdpod Corp. said it has signed an exclusive agreement with Imper SpA of Milan, Italy, for the North American distribution rights of its patented, compostable, pod-based beverage technology Güdpod Compostables.

The pods are compatible with Keurig K-Cup coffee and tea and Nespresso espresso pod brewing platforms, and are 100% compostable in only 90 days in commercial composting facilities.

Imper's innovative pod technology is reportedly the result of eight years of development and a $214 million R&D investment. The pod's plant-based multi-layer substrate protects the contents from oxygen, light and moisture degradation for 24 months.

Once the pods are used and recycled, according to the companies, they fully biodegrade in 90 days in commercial composting facilities. Güdpod said its compostable capsules have been "rigorously tested and fully certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute and numerous other sustainability organizations."

"Although single-serve brewing systems have revolutionized how we consume coffee, tea and espresso beverages, more and more consumers are concerned by the tremendous waste of single-use plastic and aluminum and the damage to our environment," said Güdpod chief executive  Chris Rohde.

Güdpod's compostable pods are offered under the Mitaly brand name and will soon be available in stores and offices nationwide.
