Italian coffee company Lavazza has made a binding offer to buy the French coffee brand Carte Noire from Douwe Egberts BV for $827 million (800 million euros), Reuters reports. In February of this year Lavazza was awarded exclusive rights to consider acquiring Carte Noire, however, earlier this month Reuters UK reported that Mondelez International was in talks with multiple parties to sell the coffee brand.
The move comes as Mondelez International and D.E Master Blenders complete the combination of their respective coffee businesses. The joint venture was approved on the condition that Mondelez sell its Carte Noire business, VendingMarketWatch reported earlier.
