Mondelez International No Longer In Exclusive Discussions With Lavazza Over Carte Noire Brand

July 6, 2015

Mondelez International is currently in talks with multiple parties to sell its European Carte Noire coffee brand, Reuters UK reports.

Mondelez International, Inc. and D.E Master Blenders announced last week that they completed the transactions to combine their respective coffee businesses, including Mondelez International's coffee portfolio in France, to create JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS (JDE). The joint venture was approved on the condition that Mondelez sell its Carte Noire business and DEMB sell its Merrild business, according to Reuters.

Earlier this year Mondelez International and Lavazza announced that Lavazza would be given exclusive rights to consider purchasing the Carte Noire coffee brand. However, Reuters now reports that Lavazza agreed to purchase DEMB’s Merrild instead. A Mondelez International spokeswoman said the company was no longer in exclusive discussions with Lavazza.
