Aug. 30, 2012

The Quality Coffee Certificate Program (QCCP) Coffee Fundamentals will be offered at the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) CoffeeTea&Water (CT&W) 2012. Nov. 13 to 15 at the New Orleans Hyatt Regency in New Orleans, La., NAMA Director, Coffee and Water Service, Roger Stewart NCE5, CCS, announced today.

“QCCP Coffee Fundamentals is a must-attend session for operators who want to succeed and profit in the fiercely competitive coffee world,” said Roger Stewart, NCE5, CCS,  NAMA director of coffee and water service in a prepared statement. “As gourmet-style coffee houses continue to grow, operators must understand how to brew the best cup of coffee possible in order to compete successfully. The program is entering its 12th year of offering training and education about the important role coffee beans and water play in serving a quality coffee beverage,” he added. To date, over 1,000 individuals have completed the two-day, fee-based course.

Sponsored by JM Smucker/Folgers Coffee in cooperation with Everpure and Newco, Coffee Fundamentals will be taught from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, prior to the CT&W 2012, the single largest education and networking event for coffee, tea and water service operators nationwide.

Workshop facilitator Mike Tompkins, CCS, president of Coffee Products Associates, is a coffee expert who is passionate and enthusiastic about coffee and teaching others. During two interactive workshops, attendees will learn about the rich history of coffee and the development of coffee flavor qualities depending on the country of origin. The session also delivers insights into coffee processing, sorting, grading, blending and roasting.  Attendees will leave the session with a fundamental but extensive understanding of coffee production and manufacturing. Through a series of guided tasting exercises, they will also experience origin and blended coffees as well.

After the completion of both QCCP workshops – Coffee Fundamentals and Brewing Fundamentals – individuals are qualified to apply for the Certified Coffee Specialist (CCS) designation. CCS is the next level of continuing education and a recognized mark of distinction in the industry. The fee for Coffee Fundamentals is $250.
