Suncoast Coffee Service And Vending In Tampa, Fla. Pays Employees To Read

Feb. 27, 2012

Suncoast Coffee Service and Vending in Tampa pays employees a bonus of $50 to read each month.  They call their office reading program MPB or Making People Better.  The program is one-of-a-kind and making a positive impact in the lives of their employees.

The program is run by a committee of employees who pick out a book each month that is motivational or specially focused on a theme appropriate to their business. The company then purchases and distributes the books to all the employees to keep as a gift.  If the employee reads the book, within the month timeframe, then they receive a $50 bonus.

“The goal of the program is in the name, to Make People Better, better employees, better husbands, better wives, better fathers, and better mothers,” said Robert Kantor, CEO in a prepared statement.  “It’s just one thing we have in place to improve our company culture, build a positive workplace and create overall happiness for our employees.”

The Making People Better office reading program has been in place several months.  Books read include Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn, and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Suncoast Coffee Service and Vending is not participating in the recession and also offers their employees a free employee healthy lunch program, family retreats, and a variety of educational  and volunteer opportunities.
