The Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop*, Costa Coffee, has launched an anti-bacterial reusable cup lid for just £1 as part of a trial across 500 participating stores, with national roll out signalled for 2021.

Over 1,200 were sold in the first week of sale and it’s not hard to see why: the fully reusable lid is more hygienic and better for the environment than regular take-away lids. The innovative lid is made from Polypropylene, a durable thermoplastic polymer with an anti-bacterial coating and is suitable for Small (12oz), Medium (16oz) and Large (20oz) takeaway cups across Costa Coffee stores, as well as Small (12oz) and Medium (16oz) cups available at Costa Express machines.

Available in two colours; iconic Costa Coffee red or classic white, the lid is dishwasher-safe and can be used time and time again if cared for correctly. It comes with its very own nylon drawstring pouch to ensure the lid is kept clean when not in use - perfect for those on-the-go, it’s small and compact and can fit into any jacket pocket or small bag.

The reusable lid also provides added peace of mind for hygiene-conscious customers who are looking to minimise contact when buying their favourite Costa coffee. Simply flash the reusable lid at order, collect your coffee order, then place the lid on the cup.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “As the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand, we are proud of our sustainability credentials. As we continue to drive reuse and recycling rates across our stores, we understand that not every customer will opt for a reusable cup when picking up their favourite, hand-crafted coffee, but we hope our new reusable lids will be an entry point to reuse for those customers. They are smaller and more convenient, with the added benefit of its anti-bacterial coating to give even more peace of mind when contact is a concern. Initial sales results suggest it’s something the market has been missing and we look forward to expanding nationally in 2021, following the success of this trial.”

For those looking to add some festive cheer to their daily coffee order then look no further than the Costa Coffee limited-edition Christmas drinks range available nationwide, featuring the heavenly After Eight® Hot Chocolate and the decadent Quality Street® ‘The Purple One’ Latte.  For busy on-the-go coffee lovers, treat yourself to the Quality Street® ‘The Purple One’ Hot Chocolate available across 9,000+ Costa Express machines nationwide.

Costa Coffee’s Reusable Lid is available at participating stores now for just £1.
