7UP targets younger consumers with lime-led soda reformulation
7UP is rolling out a lime-forward reformulation nationwide beginning in mid-August, in what the company says is its biggest brand evolution in more than 15 years.
The new 7UP Lime Lemon puts the lime first (literally) after consumer testing showed they preferred a more lime-forward flavor profile, Keurig Dr Pepper said. The change applies to 7UP Regular, 7UP Zero Sugar, Cherry 7UP and Cherry 7UP Zero Sugar. The company hopes the reformulation will help create greater distinction within the $5 billion lemon-lime carbonated soft drink category.
Along with the recipe change, redesigned packaging with a vertical 7UP logo, stronger colors, a revised package design and a Lime Lemon flavor designation will debut.
“This is a bold reinvention of one of America’s most iconic soda brands for a new generation of consumers — starting with the flavor itself,” said Drew Panayiotou, chief marketing and innovation officer at Keurig Dr Pepper, in a statement. Panayiotou said the company expects the stronger lime profile and new visual identity to help 7UP attract new consumers while strengthening its position in the lemon-lime segment.
In announcing the change, Keurig Dr Pepper cited its State of Beverages 2026 Trend Report, which found that 72% of Generation Alpha and Generation Z consumers gravitate toward citrus-forward flavors, while 64% prefer bold, intense taste experiences.
