Soda Tax Vote Coming Up In Sante Fe

April 27, 2017

ABC News reports that voters in Sante Fe, NM, will vote on May 2 whether to levy a new 2-cents-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks that would raise the cost of a six-pack of soda by nearly $1.50. The citywide tax on distributors is projected to provide Santa Fe with an estimated $7.5 million in its first year to expand early childhood education to families cannot afford pre-kindergarten and don't qualify for state programs. Early voting has been underway since April 12.
