ITO EN, a leading supplier of loose leaf green tea and ready-to-drink beverages, has announced that Daniel Appleman has joined the team as product development manager. He will be responsible for researching and development of new formulations for the company.
Prior to joining ITO EN, Daniel worked at PepsiCo as product development scientist, overseeing the integration of new products with sales strategy, quality assurance, legal and supply chain. Responsible for formulating and establishing product design and performance objectives he launched EU Gatorade Naturals, Propel Calorie Reduction and SoBe Lifewater. Managing technicians and laboratory organization, his accomplishments include improved color and flavor components to substantiate "all natural" label claim and maintaining flavor integrity. Before joining PepsiCo, he was a Chemist at Watson Pharmaceuticals located in Carmel, N.Y., conducting analytical testing of product potency, purity and content uniformity.
"With Daniel's technical insight into consumer trends and ingredient application, we are confident that his product development expertise will be an important contribution to help expand our beverage portfolio," said Jim Hoagland, executive vice president of sales & marketing in a prepared statement.
"I welcome the challenge to put my best contributions towards a product that I believe in at ITO EN. With products of the highest quality that are healthy and helpful to our consumers, I strongly feel that the product development knowledge ITO EN brings from Japan to the American market will allow us to distance ourselves from our competitors and achieve great results," said Appleman.
A graduate of University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. and SUNY Purchase of Purchase, N.Y., Daniel received his degree in Biology and Chemistry, to include Organic Chemistry and Cellular Biology. Proficient in analytical instrumentation, separation/UV-spectroscopy methods and preparation of bench-top prototypes and shelf life stabilities, he has extensive experience working with FDA and GMP Laboratory guidelines.
