Solo Cup Co. Wins Sustainability Award

Aug. 4, 2011

Solo Cup Co. was awarded the 2010 Corporate Leadership Award by Keep America Beautiful (KAB) for its ongoing efforts to support sustainability education and sustainable improvements in the communities in which its customers and employees live and work. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of KAB’s most dedicated sponsors for their support of the organization, its affiliates and its mission.

“Working with Keep America Beautiful helps all of us at Solo to give back to our communities throughout the year,” said Kim Frankovich, vice president of sustainability, Solo Cup Co. in a prepared statement. “It is an honor to receive the 2010 Corporate Leadership Award, and this recognition only furthers our commitment to improving our communities through beautification, sustainable initiatives and education.”

The company was also awarded a second place National Award for its sustainability education curriculum titled: “The Sustainability Balancing Act, Understanding the Trade-Offs.” The curriculum earlier received the Sustainability Education Vision Award from Keep Chicago Beautiful, of which Solo is a board member.

“Solo has set a great example for all our sponsors and other companies that are committed to helping make sustainable improvements to quality of life and economic vitality in the communities in which their customers and employees live, work, play and shop,” said Gail Cunningham, senior vice president, Keep America Beautiful. “We’re grateful for Solo’s generous support of Keep America Beautiful and its Great American Cleanup, and to the Solo team for its continued partnership with the organization, our network and our communities.”

Recently, Solo employees participated in Keep America Beautiful’s 2010 Great American Cleanup™, a nationwide volunteer effort to help create cleaner, greener and safer communities. The employee volunteers are part of the company’s Solo Sustainability Action Network, a group of nearly 400 passionate Solo employees who volunteer their time to help promote a positive environmental future. In addition to employee participation, Solo donated Bare® by Solo® cups and plates – made with renewable and recycled materials – to Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the country.
