U.S. Foodservice has acquired Vesuvio Foods, Inc., an Edison, N.J.-based provider of Italian foods for pizzerias, fine Italian restaurants and gourmet shops in the metro New York City market.

"We are excited that Vesuvio Foods is joining U.S. Foodservice, which will enable us to provide our broadline customers a larger selection of the world's highest quality Italian specialty foods," said Chuck Gannon, division president, U.S. Foodservice-Metro New York in a prepared statement. "The acquisition also will provide Vesuvio's customers with access to U.S. Foodservice's full line of national brand products and its own high-quality private label items. We are especially pleased that Vesuvio President Anthony Vasaturo and his team will be joining U.S. Foodservice to help us provide the highest quality products and service to our customers."

Vesuvio Foods distributes about 3,500 products from 400 suppliers in Italy, the U.S. and around the world.

"We are very pleased to be part of U.S. Foodservice – a strong, growing company with origins in traditional family-owned food businesses," Vasaturo said. "U.S. Foodservice has built a business around understanding and serving the unique needs of family-run restaurants – and we can't wait to leverage that expertise for Vesuvio customers."
