Philadelphia, Pa. Lawmakers Reject Soda Tax

Philadelphia, Pa. city council rejected Mayor Nutter's sugary drink tax while saying yes to the third property tax hike in three years, according to WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, Pa. The Tri-State Automatic Merchandising Association lobbied the city council against the measure.

Editor’s Insight: Congratulations to the Tri-State Automatic Merchandising Association for its successful efforts to prevent an unfair tax. This proposal was a regressive tax; the burden would have fallen disproportionately on low income residents at a time when they can least afford it.
