MAMA Members Discussed Pending Vending Snack Regulations At Annual Board Meeting

March 1, 2013

The annual Mississippi Automatic Merchandising Association (MAMA) board meeting was held earlier this week in Pearl, Miss. The event, including a legislative update by both NAMA senior vice president Eric Dell and regional legislative director Sheree Edwards, also featured a discussion regarding recent work on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) proposed rules to amend the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.

“We value MAMA members’ perspectives on the USDA’s actions, specifically because of the potential impact on vending and snack and beverage sales in schools. We also appreciated feedback we received on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) pending Calorie Disclosure Rules,” Dell said in a prepared statement.

Ron Aldridge, MAMA’s lobbyist, presented an update on state legislation beneficial to business, including two bills that would authorize the extension of the sales/income tax audit period. MAMA stands opposed to Senate Bill 2830, described as a ‘Sweetened Beverages and Syrups Tax’.

“MAMA is an organization committed to improving the business landscape for the Mississippi vending industry. Through the dedicated leadership of its Board of Governors, MAMA’s reputation for integrity is one that resonates across multiple business segments and communities,” he continued.

“Further, through the hard work of its leadership, MAMA consistently earns the respect of key legislators who recognize the industry’s contribution to the state’s economy by providing jobs, quality products and a valuable service to thousands of Mississippians,” added Aldridge.

NAMA is the national association for vending, micro market and office coffee service providers.
