San Angelo, Texas Schools Introduce Foodservice Prepayment System

The San Angelo, Texas Independent School District has introduced an online MealpayPlus food service payment program, which allows parents to manage their child’s meal service plan, according to The San Angelo Standard Times.

Parents can make prepayments for their child’s food plan, monitor what their children are purchasing at school and view the account balances. For no cost, parents can create a secured account, check balances and monitor the items purchased by their children in the cafeteria and receive notifications when the balance is low.

Editor’s Insight: While these are exceptionally difficult times for vending and foodservice operators to invest in new technology, they need to consider all growth opportunities available, and in some cases, investing in new technology can be the right move.

There are various prepayment and tracking systems available to school districts that help parents select what their kids do and do not buy at school, and for reviewing what products the children select.

Vending and foodservice operators who understand these systems will have an opportunity to service school districts. Operators need to be open to new opportunities. 12-10-08 by Elliot Maras

There would be no need to monitor if the cafeterias were held to the same standards and restrictions as the Vending. This tells me that the schools are not being responsible with there menus. I guess we need to educate the educators!!!
