Editor’s Insight: This site reported on 08-07-08 that Dunkin’ Donuts introduced a “better for you menu.” Starbucks may be responding to its rival Dunkin’ Donuts in an attempt to get more of the key breakfast business, but it also recognizes the importance of health awareness in today’s society, in spite of the consumer’s recent focus on price.
Vending operators should see all of this as proof that the current economic climate, while very challenging, is not changing the consumer’s concern about health and wellness. Consumers are more price conscious than they were six months ago, but they are still health conscious.
Vending operators have an opportunity in today’s operating environment to win bargain conscious consumers who are also interested in quality, variety and nutrition. While consumers are tightening their belts, they will buy value. 08-27-08 by Elliot Maras
