A study of nearly 50,000 Japanese men found that those who drank five or more cups of green tea a day reduced their risk of having progressive prostate cancer by half, compared with those who drank a cup or less, according to the Epidemiology and Prevention Division of the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, as reported in The Washington Times in Washington, D.C.
Editor’s Insight: The health benefits associated with green tea are one reason that the tea category as a whole has experienced strong growth.
According to Beverage Digest, a beverage industry newsletter, the tea category posted a 23.6 percent sales growth during the first 9-month period in 2007. Only enhanced and flavored waters, a new and much smaller category, is growing faster than tea. Vending and coffee service operators need to be cognizant of the importance of offering the variety that today’s consumers seek. 01-10-08 by Elliot Maras
