Thomas Gregory Sidwell, NCE, a National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) member, last week received the Alumni Association Industry Leader of the Year award from The School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State University, announced NAMA President and CEO Richard M. Geerdes, NCE.
Each year since 1995, The School’s Alumni Association has honored an industry leader of the year during its “Celebration of Leadership” event in New York City. The event takes place during the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show.
“Greg is an excellent choice to receive the Industry Leader of the Year award. He excels in all areas of business, freely contributes time and personal expertise for the betterment of the industry and is a leader in the community,” said Geerdes, in a prepared statement. “For these same reasons NAMA chose him to receive its Vending Allied Member of the Year award at the NAMA Expo in October.”
Sidwell is the co-founder with his wife Jayne, and president of G&J Marketing Co., a vending brokerage company in Palm Harbor, Fla. with local sales representatives in the 10 southeastern states and sales of over $150 million.
A graduate of the NAMA-MSU Executive Development program, Sidwell earned his NCE (NAMA Certified Executive) distinction, and then supported the efforts of all G&J sales reps to earn it as well. His executive team at G&J has also participated in the NAMA Executive Development Program at Michigan State University.
He is well known for his positive contributions to the vending industry. He volunteers his time and expertise to NAMA in a variety of way: supporting the Endowing the Future Campaign, serving on several committees, and working with state councils.
“We acknowledge Greg’s contribution to this special segment of the hospitality industry,” said Dr. Ron Cichy, director and professor in the school. “He has been a pioneer, establishing a very successful vend brokerage business, and committing to continuing education for his entire staff.”
