Workhorse Custom Chassis is now providing new service options for walk-in trucks using Workhorse chassis. Called Extended Service Coverage (ESC), these new options offer different levels of warranty protection for up to five years or 100,000 miles for Workhorse gas chassis and five years or 250,000 miles for Workhorse diesel chassis.
The extended warranties apply to Workhorse gas and diesel W42 and W62 walk-in truck chassis ranging from 9,400 to 23,500- lb. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), with wheelbases of 125 to 218 inches. Workhorse is the only manufacturer to offer both gas and diesel choices for walk-in trucks while also providing the widest range of GVWR options.
The Workhorse W42 gas platform (up to 16,000 GVWR) uses GM Vortec(TM) 4.8 or 6.0 liter engines with General Motors' 4-speed electronic, automatic transmissions. The current warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles. For the chassis, engine and transmission, extended warranties are now available for three years/50,000 miles, five years/50,000 miles, five years/75,000 miles or five years/100,000 miles. The same options are also available for the engine and transmission only.
Workhorse's new W62 offers the same options for its gas drivetrain that uses GMs' 8.1 L Vortec(TM) V8 gasoline engine mated to the five-speed Allison 1000HS (for 19,500 lb. GVWR) or the Allison 2200HS (for 23,500 lb. GVWR) transmission.
The diesel W62 uses International's MaxxForce 5 V6 engine with the same transmissions, while the W42 uses the MaxxForce 5 with an Allison LCT-1000. For the diesel chassis only, the current warranty is three years or 36,000 miles and can now be extended to three years/ 75,000 miles or three years/150,000 miles.
For the diesel engine, the current warranty is three years/150,000 miles, which can be extended to five years/150,000 miles, five years/200,000 miles, or five years/250,000 miles. For the diesel engine and chassis, extended warranty options are five years/150,000 miles, five years/200,000 miles, or five years/250,000 miles. In each case, the Allison transmission retains its standard 5 year/200,000 mile warranty.
"These new warranty options address the varying demands placed on walk-in fleets in terms of mileage per year," said Jay Sandler, Workhorse vice president, commercial product, in a prepared statement. "We developed them to provide peace of mind to business owners working hard to keep costs down and profits up. We know they can't afford downtime or unexpected repair costs. Our trucks must be first and foremost reliable vehicles, able to do the job every day. These warranties express our confidence that they will do just that while also providing cost control in case repairs are needed."
