California Restaurant Association Considers Legal Fight Against Los Angeles Fast Food Restaurant Ban


The California Restaurant Association is considering legal action to challenge a 1-year ban on new fast food restaurants, according to Nation’s Restaurant News. The ban was recently approved by the Los Angeles City Council but has yet to be signed by the mayor.

Editor’s Insight: The vending industry should support the foodservice industry in opposing this ridiculous proposal. Not only is it a discriminatory law, but it will do little to improve the nutritional choices available to Los Angeles residents.

If politicians can prohibit fast food restaurants from opening new outlets, they will certainly be encouraged to deny other industries the right to operate as well. It won’t be long before someone comes after the vending industry.

The Los Angeles lawmakers are either highly misguided or are being very opportunistic. There are other things they could be doing to promote health and wellness. 08-05-08 by Elliot Maras
